AFCON 2019: Now that Eagles’ve made Round of 16

For the second successive match at the African Nations Cup, the Super
Eagles laboured to a 1-0 win, this time over Guinea.
The victory courtesy of a 74th min header by Kenneth Omeruo means
Nigeria is the first nation at AFCON 2019 to qualify for the knockout
stage. Now that the Eagles are through to the next round with a game
to spare, Coach Gernot Rohr may need to start working on his formation
and tactics for the knockout stages but before that he will need to
give his unused substitutes or under utilised players run out in the
last group match.
The team must step up performance in the knockout stage as the
opponents are likely to provide stiffer competition. Their defence may
be more difficult to breach just as their attackers are likely to be
clinical and not wasteful like the Burundians and Guineans.
Ahead of the next round, Coach Gernot Rohr must ensure he corrected
all the lapses noticed in the group stage as their may be no margins
for error at this stage.
