Kwara NAWOJ sensitises students, traders, others on rape, violence

The Kwara State chapter of National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) in Ilorin on Tuesday sensitised students and traders on violence against women and rape.
NAWOJ commenced the sensitisation exercise at St. Anthony Secondary School, Ilorin, where hundreds of students were enjoined to shun illicit acts.
The state Chairperson of NAWOJ, Mrs Ayobola Olupinla, urged the students to be sensitive, dress properly, to maintain cordial relationship with their parents and open up to them in case they encounter any sexual harassment or strange attitude from their male counterparts.
Olupinla charged them to face their studies so as to be successful, adding that once they are matured enough, sexual relationship would happen with their spouses.
Similarly the immediate past chairperson of the association, Hajia Binta Mora told the students to report any sexual harassment to their parents or anyone they can confide in.
She urged them to shun any threat from their male counterparts targeted at shutting them up after molestation.
In her remarks, the Secretary of association, Mrs Fatima Rasheed urged the future leaders, wife and mothers to say no to violence against girls, women and rape.
NAWOJ members thereafter walked through major streets of Ilorin distributing handbills and carrying placards with different inscriptions such as; ‘Stop violence against girls and women’, ‘Say no to rape’, “Girls are colourful, stop that rapist from dimming their colours’ among others.
The sensitisation procession started at Offa Road, state High Court road and Post Office where people traders, motorcyclists, civil servants were addressed on the physical and emotional dangers of rape and violence against women.
