KWHA Plenary Proceedings for Wednesday, July 17th, 2019

The Speaker examined and approved the Plenary Votes and Proceedings for Tuesday, 16th, 2019
MOTION
Hon Saheed A. Popoola (Ojomu/Balogun Constituency) moved a Motion on “Mitigating the Effects of Flooding in Riverine Areas of Kwara State and seconded by Hon Mohammad Ndamusa Guyegi (Edu Constituency).
The prime mover expressed concern that due to heavy rain forecast in 2019, the inhabitants of Patigi, Lade and Kpada in Patigi Local Government Area and parts of Edu and Kaiama Local Government Areas of the state may be affected by projected flooding.

RESOLUTIONS ON THE MOTION
*The House urged the Ministry of Information and Communication, through public sensitisation in the media to draw attention of the communities likely to be affected by this forecast to as a matter of importance seek alternative temporary settlements in order to avoid any form of disaster that could occur as a result of flooding.
*The House urged the Kwara State Government to start the process of having long term resettlement plan for all riverine communities in the state in order to avert the reoccurrence of the yearly disaster.
*The House also called on the Local Government Council to live up to it’s responsibilities by constructing more drainages and the State Government should open more roads and construct bridges where needed.
*The House also urged the Town Planning Authority to ensure that Houses are not built on waterways.
MOTION FOR ADJOURNMENT
Motion for adjournment to another legislative day was moved by the House Leader, Hon Magaji Abubakar Olawoyin, seconded by Hon Abolarin Gabriel and the House adjourned to 11:00am Thursday 18th July, 2019.
