We’re open to partnership that ‘ll move Kwara forward – Speaker

The Speaker, Kwara state House of Assembly, Hon Yakubu Danladi has revealed the readiness of 9th Kwara State House of Assembly to collaborate with relevant stakeholders for the progress of Kwara state and its people.
The Speaker made this assertion while receiving the headship of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) in his office, according to a statement by his media aide, Ibrahim Sheriff.
According to him, “I realize the significance of NOA and we are ready to collaborate with them for the progress of the state. There is no way we can progress if we don’t have or take cognizance of feedbacks from the people.
“Whatever meaningful recommendations made by NOA consequent upon their feedbacks will definitely be looked into and considered as far as it is in the interest of the state”, he submitted.
The Kwara State Director of NOA, Owosegun Adeyemi earlier in his remarks noted that the Agency has always worked with previous Assemblies in Kwara State. He said the visit was to sustain such working relationship in the best interest of the people.
“I am confident that with the kinds of steps you started with, we are confident that the 9th Assembly will deliver people oriented legislation”.
The NOA boss emphasised that their mandate is to enlighten, sensitize and create awareness about government activities to the people and also serve as feedback mechanism to government. He added that they also suggest useful recommendations.
Meanwhile, the Speaker, Kwara state House of Assembly, Hon Yakubu Danladi has assured Kwarans that the state legislature will make only laws that protect human rights and interests of the good people of the state.
The Speaker, who was represented by his Deputy, Hon Raphael Adetiba made this disclosure while receiving the Kwara State Coordinator and officials of the National Human Rights Commission at the Deputy Speaker’s office.
Adetiba who commended the Commission for the good job it is doing in protecting rights of the citizenry said the House of Assembly is people oriented and will not make any law that will infringe on the rights and interests of the citizens.
The Deputy Speaker added that he will table the request of the Commission for institution of Human Rights Committee in the Kwara State House of Assembly and work with it to ensure laws made by the 9th Assembly conform with human rights norms.
The State Coordinator of NHRC, Mrs. Olaoye Jumoke earlier solicited for a working relationship with the Kwara State House of Assembly as applicable at the National Assembly to ensure bills of the State Assembly comply with Human Rights norms.
Olaoye said “we want to work with you. At the National Assembly, there is Human Rights Committee and if it is not here, we want you to consider it to enable us protect the citizens’ right in compliance with Section 5(k) of the Act establishing the NHRC”.
