AFCON 2019: Algeria celebrates with thousands of fans in Algiers

Tens of thousands of fans welcomed Algeria’s victorious Africa Cup of Nations team back home on Saturday for a parade in the capital city Algiers.
They beat Senegal 1-0 in Cairo on Friday to win their first title since 1990.
Captain Riyad Mahrez, the Manchester City winger, and his team-mates were greeted by Prime Minister Noureddine Bedoui. The bus was decorated with two stars to mark a second Cup of Nations triumph.
The words “we are proud of you” were written on the side of the bus in Arabic and Amazigh, the North African country’s two official languages.
“This victory will very certainly breathe new life into the country,” said Kheireddine Zetchi, the president of the Algerian football federation.

The Confederation of Afrcan Football, CAF, paid the African Cup of Nations champions, Algeria, the sum of $4.5 million, Senegal, the second-placed team got $2.5m, while third-placed Super Eagles earned $2m.
Algeria lifted their second ever AFCON trophy after narrowly beating Senegal 1-0 in the final last Friday night.
Following the end of the tournament, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) have revealed the prize money for all participant countries.
As for hosts Egypt, l they will receive $670.000 following their disappointing elimination from the round of 16, according to Vanguard.
The prizes will be distributed as follows:
Angola and Kenya (Third place in group-stages): $620.000
Round of 16: $670.000 (Benin, Uganda, Egypt, Mali, Guinea, DR Congo, Cameroon and Ghana)
Quarter-finals: $800.000 (Madagascar, Ivory Coast, South Africa and Benin)
Semi-finalists: $2 million (Nigeria and Tunisia)
Senegal: $2.5 million.
Algeria: $4.5 million.
