27-yr-old footballer remanded for theft in Ilorin

27 years old Mubarak Bello was on Tuesday ordered to be remanded in prison custody by the Kwara State Upper Area Court 1 over alleged   theft.
The police First Information Report (FIR) revealed that on 26th June, 2019, one Ogundiran Victor of Geonik Hotel, Gaa-Akanbi roundabout, Ilorin, Kwara State reported at the ‘A’ Division Police Station Ilorin that Bello came to lodge in their hotel for three weeks at the rate of N4,500 per night.
Bello was said to have pretended to have transferred money to the hotel account.
The defendant allegedly ordered 15 plates of pepper soup and 2 plates of food which cost N17, 000.
Bello was further accused of borrowing the sum of N8,000 from the complainant to settle the bills of the prostitute he slept with.
According to the Police report, Bello, while trying to use a mobile bank application, made away with Itel P33 plus worth N25,000, belonging to Ogundiran Victor, the hotel attendant.
The defendant was said to have disappeared through the restroom.
All effort geared towards the arrest of Bello proved abortive until 27th July, 2019 when he went again to lodge in Lylius hotel, Asa Dam, Ilorin, Kwara state, where he booked a room. for 2 weeks at the rate of N10,000 per night with the name Williams Omofolarin.
The FIR again stated that Bello cunnily said he wanted to make a transfer of N160,000 to the hotel account but claimed the network was also bad.
He further requested for two prostitutes to pass the night with him which cost him N47, 000.
It also revealed that he stole one Infinix hot3 from one Eniola John at Daros Hotel before his arrest.
He was charged before Justice Yahaya for criminal breach of trust, cheating and theft contrary to sections 312, 322 and 289 of penal code law.
The prosecutor, ASP Mojisola Olamokun prayed the court to remand the defendant in prison custody as investigation is ongoing on the matter.
Justice Yahaya in his rulling remanded the defendant in prison custody while the case has been adjourned to 20th August, 2019 for hearing.
