The Kwara State Government has closed down 99 illegitimate and sub-standard private schools across the three senatorial districts of the state.
This was made known last Thursday in a statement issued by the Press Secretary of the state Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Kamaldeen Aliagan.
According to the statement, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Hajia Mariam Ayodeji Garba, said the proprietors of the affected schools failed to abide by the rules and regulations of the state government in establishing their learning centres.
She however warned that the present administration under Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq won’t compromise commonplace within the education sector and other sectors of the economy.
Garba said the Abdulrazaq administration is committed to qualitative education that will see pupils and students of Kwara compete favourably with their colleagues from other parts of the country and the world.

Head teacher charges graduands, pupils on good conduct, dedication to studies
The headmistress of Pakata Muslim Community Basic School, Ita-Nmo, Ilorin, Hajia Muinat Uthman, has charged the graduands and pupils to be committed to their studies and be good ambassadors of the school.
Speaking during the 11th Graduation and Prize Giving Ceremony of the school, last Thursday, Hajia Uthman said, “I appreciate the efforts of the school management board for their tireless support every moment in taking the school to greater height. My appreciation also goes to the school PTA for their support and sacrifices likewise our mother the principal of Government Girls Secondary School, Okekere, Alhaja Iyabo Yekini for her regular donation. May Allah reward you in this world and hereafter.
“To the graduating pupils, I really congratulate you for this achievement; many started but could not end up. However, this is just the starting point, make sure you don’t relent in your effort and you put in the best as you climb higher.
“I also want you to be God fearing, hardworking and good ambassador of the school. May Allah make it easy and be with you.”
Speaking further, she said, “To the parent of the graduating pupils, we thank Allah on your behalf for the success of your child so far; you must however know that it is a favour likewise a test from Allah. So, please train them very well and know that it is the stage that they need your support because it is a stepping stone to success in life.”
The headmistress however appreciated the teaching and non-teaching staff of the school for their sacrifice towards the realisation of the goals of the founding fathers of the school. “I thank you all and encourage you not to relent on this but to be more steadfast as your reward is not only in heaven but it begins from here.”
She however solicited for support from the parents towards the movement of the school to the permanent site soon.
