Eid-el Kabir: Avoid overloading, overspeeding to prevent accident – RTEAN
Ahead of the Eid-el Kabir celebration, the Chairman, Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Kwara State branch has advised drivers to avoid overloading and overspeeding to prevent accident during the festival period.
The Chairman of the union, Alhaji Abdulrahman Olayinka Onikijipa issued the warning during an interview with Pilot Business on Wednesday.
He added that to prevent members from flouting traffic rules and regulations, the union has set up a disciplinary committee.
According to him, members of the committee has been stationed to monitor drivers during the fSallah period.
He noted that when the car is overloaded, its capacity is overstretched as well as the tyre pressure, saying it is a dangerous act that must stop.
“I implore our members to check their vehicles to ensure that the brakes, gear, steering, lights, engine and other parts are intact before embarking on any journey,” he advised.
Onikijipa also urged the drivers to avoid taking alcohol and hard drugs before embarking on journey so as to prevent road crash.
The Chairman equally called on the drivers to obey all traffic rules and regulations as their safety and that of the passengers is the priority of the union.
“We are ready to partner with various stakeholders and government agencies to ensure safety of lives and properties on the roads.”
