Falz defends Sowore over treason charge, calls for his release
Music sensation, Falz has called for the immediate release of detained ex-presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore.
In an Instagram post, Falz threw his weight behind Sowore saying “organizing a protest march does not in anyway amount to treason.”
The trained lawyer and rapper went to advise the government that “this is not a time to arrest anyone but to listen to the voices of the masses.”
The ‘Moral Instruction’ rapper said further that the protest march can be termed as a build up of several years of neglect of the welfare of the people.
“What we are facing is a build up of the several years of neglect of the welfare of our people. Our government’s constant disregard of the loss of lives of many Nigerians. The ridiculous rate of poverty and unemployment that afflicts us. This is not a time to arrest anyone but to listen to the voices of the masses. Organizing a protest march does not in anyway amount to treason. #FreeSowore Immediately!” he wrote in full.
On Friday night, August 2, 2019, Sowore was arrested by security agents from the State Security Service (SSS). His arrest and detention were over #RevolutionNow, a series of planned protests against bad governance in Nigeria scheduled for August 5, 2019. The planned protest has been described as treason.
