Former Sports minister and gubernatorial aspirant in the last general elections in Kwara State, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, is set to launch N50million endowment fund in the state.
Abdullahi, made this known during the celebration of his 50th birthday at his GRA residence in Ilorin, the state capital on Monday.
According to him, the programme will begin next academic session, stressing that it is designed to give support to the less privileged across the state.
The former commissioner of Education owever promised to use his goodwill and relationship to drive his vision, saying the state educational system must have a new look.
Abdullahi stressed that the reason for the endowment fund is borne out of the kind gesture he received from one Ekiti man who gave him N40 to purchase Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) form.
He added that but for the kind act of the man, he might not have become what he is today.
The ex-minister added that he had a very poor background that did not prevent the rise to his current status even as he urged the public to inculcate the habit of giving to the less privileged in the society.
“I will not have been here today if the Ekiti man, Elder Gboko, had not paid for my JAMB form, somebody who hardly knew me gave me the money.
“The man was a Christian from Ekiti State while I am a Muslim from Ilorin but he broke the religious and ethnic barrier to better my life.
“The messages and calls I get daily, majority of them are on demand for school fees, house rent and the likes. In order to help our people across the state, I’ve decided to launch an endowment fund of N50million, it’s not that I have the money but I’m going to use my contacts and relationship to do it.
“We believe when we start, we won’t stop at N50million but go beyond,” he divulged.
