Cultism: 30-yr-old driver remanded for stabbing NYSC Corp, security officer in Ilorin

 

One Akeem Kareem, a 30 years old driver of Ile Oluperi Alfa Yahaya, Ilorin, Kwara State was, last Friday, ordered to be remanded in Oke-Kura Federal prison over alleged cultism.
He was also remanded for allegedly stabbing a National Youth Service Corp member serving in his community and a security officer.
The Police First Information report stated that the matter was referred to SARS office on 1st August, for proper investigation.
The Police report stated that a team of police operatives led by Inspector Idowu Gbadebo stormed the Adewole Alfa Yahaya area, Ilorin, where some members of secret cult gathered with intent to cause havoc to innocent citizens of the community.
Kareem, who was said to be the leader of the gang was arrested during the operation.
Police investigation said that sometimes ago, the defendant used axe to stab an innocent NYSC Corps member serving the nation in the community.
A security officer who  reported intervened in the matter was allegedly inflicted with deep cut on his back and face.
The Police report added that the suspect’s action could lead to death of the victim or a sort of permanent deformation.
FIR maintained that anytime Kareem and his cohorts held meeting in the community, people will be panicky and unable to move freely.
Kareem was charged to court for allegedly being a member of secret cult, attempt to commit homicide and belonging to gang of brigands contrary to section1 of secret society and cults (Prohibition) law of Kwara State law No. 15 of 2013, section 229 and 305 of penal code law.
The prosecutor, Yusuf Nasir prayed the court to remand the suspect in prison custody, saying the offences before the court are not ordinarily bailable.
Magistrate Muhammed Ibrahim, in his ruling, ordered that Kareem should be remanded in prison while the matter was adjourned to 22nd August, 2019.
