Saka Saheed Baba, a Professor of Virology and Consultant Virologist at University of Ilorin, passed on last Friday.
Baba who had MSc Virology (1987) and PhD Virology (1991) from University of Ibadan, Nigeria had his postdoctoral research training in Neurovirology at Queen’s University at Kingston, Canada (1992-1994), in Fish Virology at Norwegian College of Vet. Medicine, Oslo, Norway (1996) and was a ‘TWAS Associate Member and Visiting Professor at CINVESTAV, Mexico (1998-2001). He started his academic career at University of Maiduguri in 1985 and became a Professor of Virology in 1998 and was the Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Maiduguri, Nigeria between 2004 and 2006. He was Visiting Professor and Director, Chevron Biotechnology Centre, Federal University of Technology, Yola, Nigeria (2007-2008).
His academic pursuits have provided him with opportunities of training and research visits to countries such as Canada, USA, UK, Denmark, Norway, France, Israel, Mexico, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Togo and Benin.
