Sallah: Shoprite shuts out customers over massive crowd

Customers of Shoprite in Ilorin, Kwara State were on Sunday shut out due to the massive crowd that thronged the popular mall for the Sallah  celebration.
Pilot Business gathered that Shoprite was forced to close its door to prevent overcrowding in the mall and because the customers that out numbered the capability of the staffers on duty.
When our reporter visited the mall, it was observed that the entrance was condon off and customers allowed to access the mall in batches as crowd control measure.
It was further observed that the doors of the mall were quickly shut as soon as a batch is allowed in  to prevent other customers from gaining entrance  until those inside finished with their shopping.
However, on Monday the security personnel were seen screening  children properly to ensure they had money on them  before allowing them into the mall.
A security personnel on duty who craved anonymity told this medium that the children were subjected to the scrutiny because of the loss the mall suffered during previous festive celebrations.
According to the source, as a result of huge crowd, some children would eat food items inside the mall and walk away freely without making any payment while some others stole wares.
The security personnel also noted that the installed  CCTV does not have capacity to capture msssive crowd, hence the method used to control crowd.
