The Imam of Sultanat Mosque Adewole, Ilorin, Ustaz Murtador Sultan Kamaldeen at the weekend stressed the need for Muslims to be good to their parents.
Imam Kamaldeen during his Friday sermon (Khutba), noted that it’s very important for Muslims to always be conscious of any act that will make them sins against their parents which will attract the wrath of Almighty Allah.
He also said that, goodness to parents is an act of worship and means of thanking God so as to appreciate the parents hard work from the pregnancy level to the stage they are now, in which Almighty Allah appreciate most.
According to him, God Almighty in the holy Qur’an instructed Muslims that we should direct our worship to no one but for God alone.
“Let your worship be only for God, don’t worship, bow or place anything above Almighty Allah. After that do good to your parents.”
Kamaldeen said, “We have to take care of our fathers and mothers, they endured a lot of pain during pregnancy and delivery to take good care of us. We should thank God for easing our passage to come to this world safely during delivery and also thank our parents for the pains they passed through and also for taking good care of the stage we are.”
He said the happiness of parents is for a child to be good to both of them.
“Our parents are the means to our success and also can lead to ill luck in our lives through the kind of attitude we portray towards them.
“They are also a means to our entering paradise or hell on the day of judgement depending on the character we exhibit towards them”, he added.
Imam Kamaldeen also said that, “Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W) said that, there are some sins categorised as major sins like worshiping other gods instead of Allah, disobeying parents, testifying to what is not real among others.”
He enjoyed Muslims to embarked on good deeds and avoid offending their parents. “If you don’t make your parents happy, it is a big sin. The Prophet (SAW) said that, on the Day of Judgement, God will punish any Muslim that didn’t do good deeds to their parent.”
He further urged Muslims to follow the part of Allah and continue to be good to their parents to meet with the favour of God on the Day of Judgement.
