Int’l Aviation College workers stage protest over welfare

Workers of International Aviation College (IAC) Ilorin, yesterday, staged a peaceful protest over poor welfare package and alleged victimisation by the management of the college.
As early as 8:00am the protesters barricaded the main gate of the college with their vehicles numbering about 10 to register their grievances.
Men and officers of the Nigeria Police Force were seen at the scene to maintain law and order.
Speaking to this medium, one of the protesters, who craved anonymity, said “We have decided to stage a protest against manhandling and victimisation of indigenous staff by the rector of the college, Capt. Benedict Adeyileka.
“When the rector resumed last July, he called all the staff and instructed us to stay at home pending when things get better.”
Speaking further, he said after the rector started fixing things in the school, rather than recalling them (staff) back, he decided to recruit new staff.
He added that they have since written a petition to the Kwara State House of Assembly which in return ordered the management of the college to recall them.
“After our recall, the rector who wasn’t pleased with the situation decided to be victimising us.
“The rector decided to pay those he employed better salary scale than us. We don’t even have employees structure here. This is what we are fighting for and we want the rector to tell us the level we belong,” he divulged.
Efforts to speak with the rector on the mobile phone proved abortive as at the time of filing this report.
