KWSG warns residents, shop owners against illegal refuse dumps

In a bid to ensure sanity and healthy environment, the Kwara State Government has warned residents and shop owners across the metropolis against illegal dumping of refuse.
The Head of Service, Mrs Susan Modupe Oluwole, gave the warning when she led top government officials on a visit to some selected areas in Ilorin to ascertain the level of compliance on environmental sanitation on Monday.
She said, “Henceforth, the government will deal decisively with residents and shop owners found dumping refuse in drainages.
Oluwole charged the people to desist from patronising unregistered waste managers as those caught would be made to face full wrath of the law.
She noted that the exercise was part of the state government’s effort to reintroduce sanitary inspection in Kwara.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Alhaji Amosa Isiaka Al-Amin emphasised that the state government is committed towards ensuring a healthy living standard for Kwarans and residents.
Alhaji Al-Amin, disclosed that the state government would re-introduce sanitary inspection where scientific and sanitary officers would be clustered into various parts of the metropolis to enforce cleanliness in the state.
The Permanent Secretary however disclosed that new sophisticated Roro bins would be distributed across the metropolis to curb littering of the roads and blockage of drainages with refuse.
He called on unregistered waste management agencies to comply within the stipulated period to avoid enforcement by the ministry.
Areas visited included Asa Dam, Edun and Sango – all in Ilorin – among others.
