Gov Abdulrazaq seeks KWHA approval for N135bn revised budget

...reiterates commitment to training, retraining of civil servants

Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has forwarded the 2019 revised budget estimate of N135,159,772,167, to the State House of Assembly for legislative approval.
This is against N157,802,032,651 earlier approved by the 8th legislature as 2019 budget of the state, representing 15% decrease.
The Supplementary Estimates was contained in the Governor’s letter to the House, dated 21st August, 2019 and read on the floor of the House by the Speaker, Hon. Yakubu Danladi Salihu.
With the revised budget, the recurrent revenue, according to the message, now stands at N97,221,983,006 as against N121,846,573,912 earlier approved, representing 21% decrease.
Revised Capital Estimate is also now N62,810,026,813 against N79,594,046,011, representing 21% reduction.
The Recurrent Expenditure is now N72,349,746,354,with  N24,872,236,652 as transfer to Capital Development Fund against N78,207,986,550 with N43,638,537,912 as transfer Capital Development Fund earlier approved, representing 8% decrease.
The Speaker, who called on the House Leader, Hon Abubakar Olawoyin Mogaji to lay the Estimates on the table, directed the House Committee on Rules and Business to slate the Supplementary Estimate for second Reading.
The House equally received a bill for a law to establish the State Social Investment Programme to tackle poverty, ensuring equitable distribution of resources and economic growth in the state.
The Bill was contained in a message by the Governor to the Speaker, dated 19th August, 2019, urging the House to pass the bill into law to further enhance the wellbeing of the vulnerable people in the state.
Meanwhile, the House has directed its Committee on Health and Environment, to investigate nonchalant attitude of health workers to patients in the government owned hospitals in the state and report to the House in 2 weeks.
This followed a Matter of General Public Importance raised by member representing Share/Oke Ode constituency, Hon. Olatunde Rasaq Owolabi at the floor of the House.
The Speaker enjoined the committee to ensure that its report covers all public owned hospitals in the state, to stem the tide of the problem, pointing out that the nonchalant attitude of some health workers had caused irreparable damages to citizens which must not be allowed to continue.

In its bid to ensure effective and efficient job delivery in the civil service, the Kwara State Government has again reiterated its commitment towards training and retraining of public servants.
Speaking on Tuesday at a 3-day intensive Training and Workshop organised for serving French teachers in the state today, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Maryam Ayodeji Garba said training and retraining of workers is pivotal to the success of the present administration.
Represented by the Director Planning, Research and Statistics, Alhaji Abdulrasaq Alabere, the Permanent Secretary, said, “training, seminars and workshops are the essential programmes to reshape the mental and academic status of workers most especially teachers who are expected to impact knowledge to our children.”
Hajia Garba disclosed that the present administration places premium on the education sector in the state. She therefore urged participants to listen attentively and display leadership qualities to students that will lead to better their performance.
She added that approval and release of fund for training of French teachers is an indication that “the Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq places high premium on training and retraining of workers and is committed to effective and efficient service delivery.”
Earlier, Association of Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) President in the state, Alhaji Toyin Abdullahi appreciated the present administration for its commitment towards development of education within the shortest time of 100 days in office.
The program with the theme “Modern Techniques of Teaching French Language in our Public School” was well attended by stakeholders in education and French teachers in both Public and Private Secondary School in the state.
