20-yr-old herdsman arrested for allegedly destroying farmland
A 20-year-old cattle rearer, Sanda Kiruwa has been arrested by men of
the Kwara State police command for allegedly destroying farmland in
Banni, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.
He was said to have in the process destroyed farm products worth 3
million naira, penultimate Monday.
The suspect, Kiruwa was said to have deliberately reared his cows to
graze in the farm belonging to one Abdulganiyu Saad of Kosa, a
neighbouring village.
It was gathered that the suspect on sighting the owner of the farm
took to their heels.
Pilot Crime learnt that the suspect was later nabbed at his homestead,
Adena village and handed over to police.
According to a police source, “The suspect destroyed yam worth
millions of naira before taking to his heels when he sighted the
farm owner.
“The case was reported at Banni police headquarters after the suspect
had been captured.
“The victim in his statement at the station, said the suspect
alongside some other people invaded his farm with their cows to
graze and destroy farm produce valued at N3million. He said the
suspect was nabbed in his village, with the help of people.
The source further said that the suspect during interrogation
confessed to have committed the crime alongside others, adding that
efforts to arrest other perpetrators is ongoing.
However, efforts to get the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP
Ajayi Okasanmi on the development proved abortive as calls to his
mobile phones were not picked and messages not responded to at the
time of filing this report.
