Cleric charges Muslims on piety
By Ahmed Ajikobi
The Imam of Government Day Secondary School Adewole, Ilorin, Alhaji
Shittu Abdullateef has tasked Muslims to be conscious of Almighty
Allah and be pious in all they do.
He further said that Almighty Allah ordered Muslims to observe the
five daily prayers, Ramadan fast, pilgrimage to hajj and payment of
Zakat, among other means of worship to increase their piety and
benefit from Allah’s injunctions.
Abdullateef stated this at the Juma’at service during his sermon
(Khutba) before the two congregational rakat on Friday.
According to him, Muslims should put Allah first and last in all their
doings to increase His consciousness in their mind adding that the
Creator will in turn also reward them with good in this life and
hereafter.
The Imam also urged the parents to serve as role model to their
children on how to read the Quran.
“Parent should teach children on how to observe solat. They should
lead prayer for their children and by doing that they are teaching
their children about religion. They should teach them on how to read
and translate the Quran. Any parent that doesn’t know how to read and
translate Quran should invest in the aspect or find someone to teach
them. This is very important to promote proper understating of Islam
from their tender age.
“Apart from enrolling our children to learn and interpret the Glorious
Qur’an, parents should also serve as role model to their children on
how to read Quran by developing themselves irrespective of their age.
Sometimes, the action of the parents will have a lasting impression
and more telling effect on the religious development of the children.
It is important that parents understand their crucial role in the
religious upbringing of their wards and strive to excel by necessarily
equipping themselves for the task ahead.
