License Suspension: How I revived Int’l Aviation College, Ilorin — Rector
By Matthew Denis
The Rector of International Aviation College, Ilorin, Kwara State,
Engr. Benedict Adeyileka on Thursday revealed how he repositioned and
revived the college after suspension of its training license by
regulatory body.
Adeyileka while fielding questions from journalists in Ilorin,
dismissed allegations of misappropriation, nepotism and highhandedness
leveled against him by some individuals.
His words: “I joined the International Aviation College August 2018.
The training license of the college has been suspended by Nigerian
Civil Aviation Agency (NCAA) due to non compliance issues. The
situation was very bad. The major challenges are lack of resources and
facilities including Aircrafts which is very key. My mandate is to
reposition the institution and we have done that within one year.
“I used my experience in the regulatory body to regain the training
license. One of the biggest problems was funding. We have to use our
technical knowledge to achieve something meaningful with little
funding.”
The Rector said the college at the moment has six aircrafts and two
jets donated by Nigerian Airforce, adding that over 50 students are
currently undergoing training in the institution including 10 from
Nigerian Airforce,
He noted that no fewer than 200 students have graduated from the college.
Adeyileka also cleared the air about his accommodation, he said
Government promised to offer him house in the employment letter but
yet to fulfill that part of the deal.
“I am staying in the hotel with the hope that the accommodation issue
will be resolved on time but unfortunately it continued to linger. At
a point, the Transition Committee takeover apartment allocated to me.”
He stated that he has defended all allegations raised against him with
the EFCC and Kwara State House of Assembly.
The Registrar, Alhaji Rasheed Ayelabegan and Head of Training. Captain
Joseph Ganbra in separate comments urged people to stop playing
politics.
