Two churches and one mosque were burgled in Agbooba and Adewole area
of Ilorin, Kwara State, penultimate week.
The affected churches are the Deeper life Church situated in Agbooba
and Calvary Church in Adewole area, while the burgled mosque is sited
in the Agbooba area.
Items carted away from the religious houses include generating set,
public address system, Qur’an, praying mats among others.
A member of Calvary Church, Christiana Atanda told Pilot Crime that
members became aware of the burglary last Monday.
“We got to church on Monday evening  for continuation of our seven-day
deliverance programme and discovered that our Honda generator had been
stolen.
“We had used the generating set the previous day for the programme, so
it was shocking to find out that it was missing the next day.
“Efforts to recover it was futile as the burglars left no trace. The
surprising part of it is that the doors and windows were intact,” she
added.
Speaking on  the burglary at the mosque, one Lukman Abdulraheem, said
despite  that the door was well secured, the burglars still found
their way in.
He disclosed that a public address system, which had just been
replaced after the previous one had been stolen, was among items
carted away.
Abdulraheem who decried the insecurity in the area, said  the case had
been reported to the community leader, with the hope that concrete
step will be taken to forestall future occurrence.
Also speaking to our reporter, one of the church members of Deeper
Life Church, Ayo Micheal said the church had suffered same fate thrice
within a year.
“Our church has been burgled three times within the last quarter of
2018 and 2019. There is the need for police to pay attention to this
area.”
He disclosed that the church elders had reported the case at the “D”
division Adewole police station.
Efforts to get the community leader of Adewole, Alhaji Atanda
Sulaiman, on the development proved abortive.
