Cleric to Government: Sit up, shun 100 days celebration
By Ahmed Ajikobi
The Imam of Olorunsogo Central Mosque, Ilorin, Kwara State, Ustaz
Solihu Orire has charged Federal and State Governments to shun 100
days celebration and sit up ceremony, adding that the ceremony is a
distraction.
He further said that the celebration of the 100 days is dangerous for
the government and the citizens because of its ability to reduce the
momentum of governance.
Orire noted this on Friday during his sermon (Khutba) before the
traditional two rakat, stressing that the celebration of 100 days for
those that want to govern and positively impact the state and entire
country will be a distraction.
According to him “The way everybody is celebrating 100 days is
worrisome. Hundred days in office should be a kind of pathfinder for
the government both at the state and federal that are really desirous
of meaningful development.”
He therefore tasked the Kwara State Government to instead use the 100
days to check how far they have delivered their campaign promises
and what lies ahead for them to cover.
He said “They should use that time to review their blueprint and
remove those projects that will not be useful to the public while
replacing them with the ones that will add value and benefit the
people.”
Orire also called on the public to use the period to checkmate the
government and point out what has been done so far and errors made.
“There are two set of people in the state. The first set are those who
will sing praise of the government whether they performed well or not.
“Others will condemn the same government whether they do the right
thing for hundred years or not. But there is need to call the
government to order.”
He stressed that government should not celebrate themselves rather use
the moment to effect, adding that the 100 days period should be to
remind them of their promises to Kwarans.
He therefore called on Kwarans to be “patient and desist from blaming
government unnecessarily.”
