I set up foundation to discover talents in paralympians – Odebode
Sunday Odebode, the founder of Odebode Para Table Tennis has said his
experience interacting with paralympians and the need to tap more
grassroots talents made him set up his Foundation.
The Offa Indigene disclosed that the essence of the Foundation is to
discover talents at the grassroots to replace the aging ones.
“I have been with the Para Table tennis athletes for 30 years and most
of the Para athletes have pass through this Foundation.”
“The essence of setting up the Foundation is based on grassroots
development, we are trying to catch them young to replace the aging
ones.”
He continued by describing the difficulty he faced in bringing up the
Para Table tennis athletes today and solicited for support from
government, individuals and private sectors towards physically
challenged people.
“We have difficulty in bringing them together and financing it but I
want to thank Honorable Kunle Sholame who have been supportive in that
aspect.
“I am urging government, individuals and private sectors to support us
in the quest of giving ability to disability.”
Odebode revealed the ambition of his Foundation, while disclosing the
talent discovered at the ongoing National Youth Games.
“We are looking towards having a national Para Table tennis tournament
in Nigeria.”
“The competition which is tagged “Value Jet” will be coming up by
December 15-21 in Lagos State.”
“I have discovered a new talent in the ongoing National Youth Games, a
11-year-old boy, Damilola Oluwole from Ondo State, who was the Most
Valuable Player at the event.”
