Political Instability, corruption responsible for Nigeria leadership woes’

A renowned Islamic cleric, Sheikh lsmail Adekunle-Busayri has identified endemic corruption, nepotism, religious bigotry, political instability and ethnicity among others as indices retarding Nigeria’s development since attainment of Independence 59 years ago.
Busayri who is the Secretary General of Muslim Community in Oyo State made the observation in llorin, the Kwara capital penultimate Sunday while delivering a lecture commemorating the 59th Independence anniversary of the country.
The annual Independence lecture which was at the instance of The Muslim Congress, Kwara chapter, was attended by thousands of Muslims from different parts of the country.
The Cleric whose lecture centred on development in Nigeria since its amalgamation 105 years ago and 59th Independence, noted that no remarkable development has been achieved to justify Nigeria’s long existence.
Busayri identified endemic corruption inordinate ambition, religious bigotry and ethnicity, lack of sincerity by some leaders among others as basic indices retarding development in Nigeria.
According to him, “Several nations that got Independence with us within the same period, are more developed than us in all spheres because they have sincere leaders. All the politicians are just redressing themselves in another garb across parties.
‘This is why we have political instability in the country. If they fail to get what they want in a given system, they try to cause political instability in the polity and make the country ungovernable’, the Cleric said.
He noted that Nigeria which is the largest economy in Africa and ranked 27th position in terms of economy worldwide must develop than the present situation.
He advised Nigerians to embark on diversification of the economy instead of depending on oil alone to create more job opportunities.
Busayri urged Nigerians to see themselves as indivisible entity regardless of religion or background for greater development to be attained. He said Nigerians should plan for the future to accommodate and attract the abundant human resources scattered all over the world to develop the state and advocated for the fear of Almighty Allah and selfless service in whatever we do to develop the country and improve on the present situation.
The Kwara Waali of The Muslim Congress (TMC), Alhaji Ariyo Olalekan Basheer in his remarks called on the three tiers of government to take patriotic action plans that would drive the nation’s socio-economic infrastructure to enviable heights.
This he said would further boost the nation’s status among the comity of nations.
He advised the Federal Government to show more zeal and commitment in building strong institutions powered by strong and motivated people.
