Aisha Buhari returns amid reports of president taking another wife

Aisha Buhari, wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, returned to Nigeria around 4.30am, yesterday, after been away on holiday in the United Kingdom.
Speaking to reporters on arrival, Mrs. Buhari said she was happy to be home after a well-deserved rest.
A statement signed and sent to newsmen by her Director of Information, Suleiman Haruna, said: “This morning, First Lady of Nigeria, Dr. Mrs. Aisha Muhammadu Buhari returned to the country after a long holiday in the UK. She arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at 4.30am via a British Airways flight.”
The statement said the wife of the President, on arrival confirmed that she was fully rejuvenated to continue the work of improving the health and well-being of women, children and other vulnerable Nigerians.
She used the opportunity to thank her husband, family and well-wishers for their support and encouragement.
On hand to receive her were wives of present and former governors and many associates.
This is coming at a time when reports had it that Buhari was set to marry another wife.
Reports had it that Buhari was to marry the Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster and Management, Sadiya Umar Farouq, yesterday, but it never happened.
This came following the continued absence of Aisha, who has been out of the Presidential Villa since her trips to Saudi Arabia and UK.
However, Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, dispelled that Buhari was picking another wife, stressing that the “rumour was a deceptive manoeuvre by those who fabricated the news.”
…real reason she was away from Nigeria
Aisha Buhari, on her return yesterday, gave reason why she was away from the country.
The wife of the President however cautioned Nigerians on the dangers of spreading fake news. She said this shortly after she returned from a medical leave from the United Kingdom.
Mrs Buhari gave the warning while fielding questions from journalists shortly after her arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, in the early hours of Sunday.
The first lady was received at the airport by the wife of Kogi State Governor, Rashida Bello, Senior Special Assistant to the President (Administration), Hajo Sani and wife of former governor of Nasarawa State, Mairo Al-Makura, among others.
She expressed gratitude to almighty God for journey mercy back to Nigeria from United Kingdom after a medical was advised by her doctor.
“It has been a tradition for us. For like 20 to 27 years now, if our children are on holiday, we used to spend holiday with them.
“I never abandon my children and last year, I went to Spain and spent two months with Zahra when she gave birth.
“So, the same this year’s holiday in U.K, I fell sick; so, I stayed back to see a doctor and the doctor advised me to stay back to attend to my health.
“From the U.K, I travelled to Saudi Arabia for Hajj and returned to England on doctor’s advice and they also advised that I should slow down my activities.’’
She warned against spreading fake news, saying that it does no good to anyone and urged relevant stakeholders to make efforts to stem the act.
“The genesis of this fake news started when my husband fell sick and perpetrators of this act were showing fake Ambulance, Hospital and dead body suggesting that my husband is dead.
“That time, I received so many calls from other first ladies and presidents of other countries to confirm; so I called the attention of NCC, NBC and the National Orientation Agency.
“Fake news will lead this country to something else if actions are not taken with immediate effect,’’ she said.
…confirms footage showing her ranting in Aso Rock
Aisha, the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, on Sunday, confirmed a viral video that showed her ranting about a locked door in the presidential villa.
Mrs Buhari returned to Nigeria at about 4.30am on Sunday, after having been away on holiday in the United Kingdom, UK. She relocated to the UK after an earlier trip to Saudi Arabia.
In a chat with newsmen, Aisha said she was the one in the footage.
It was gathered that Aisha got angry after a disagreement with Mamman Daura, the president’s cousin, some months ago.
In the clip, Aisha said: “This is the villa. We have over 200 soldiers guarding us, over 200 policemen. Why do you have to lock this door? What for, what for? Enough is enough. Let me know when you are leaving this place, let me know”
Speaking, the president’s wife said: “The video was an old video. The event happened. It was me…actually, it happened in the villa.”
The First Lady, however, said she was happy to be home.
Aisha returned amid rumors that her husband allegedly planned to marry the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster and Management, Sadiya Umar Farouq.
In her reaction, Farouq dismissed the speculation.
