NGO calls for state of emergency in Kwara education sector

A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) ISNUAB Educational Consult has called on Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq to declare state of emergency on the education sector.
The Founder of the NGO, Mr. Sikirullahi Issa Nuhu made the call during a one-day Kwara Education Reform Summit (KERS) held at Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin ย on Wednesday.
The Founder who is the Convener of KERS said the Speakers for the programme were carefully selected to discuss issues and highlight the key themes, trends and setbacks of Kwara educational standard and suggest way forward.
According to him, the NGO was established to proffer solutions to problems facing education not only in Kwara State but Nigeria as a whole.
He said, “Our vision is to see the educational sector in the country return to the enviable status it once occupied through advocacy and training of manpower in the sector.
“A thorough look at the ranking of examination bodies like WAEC and NECO revealed a decline in the academic performance of students in Kwara State, a trend that urgently needs to be reversed. This with other internal issues militating against the development of Education in the state needs to be urgently addressed.
“It is in view of this that the consults in collaboration with Hannis Institute development Studies ย (HIDS) is organizing an Educational Summit with the theme: Reviving kwara education system from a state of coma’ which aims to take a careful look at the problems facing the educational sector in the State with a view of proffering solutions on the way forward.
“It behooves of both private and public sectors to partner to ensure there are tremendous development in our education sector. Technology is taking over the world and I believe, we in Kwara State need to embrace it and inculcate its usage to our schools, offices and personal life.
Nuhu stressed that the Consults is ready to work with ย government, relevant stakeholders and concerned individuals that cherish and wishes to see changes in our educational sector.
In his address, the Guest Lecturer, Prof. G.T Olasunjoye called on the Federal Government to review the educational curriculum and syllables to meet the contemporary demands for students and pupils.
Also speaking, the founder of Hannis Institute for Development Studies (HIDS) Mr. Lawal Olohungbebe emphasized on parental constitutional review, saying there should be stringent punishments for politicians who failed to execute projects most especially in the educational sector.
He also tasked parents on the upbringing of children to inculcate discipline and fear of God ย in them as future leaders.
