Buhari under fire over plan to regulate social media

Presiding Pastor of the Awaiting The Second Coming Of Jesus Christ
Gospel Church, Adewale Giwa, has criticised President Muhammadu Buhari
government’s plans to regulate the use of social media in Nigeria.
Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Tuesday, said the
Federal Government is working on regulating social media.
In a statement sent to Daily Post on Wednesday, Giwa noted that
criticism is a price of leadership and any leader who does not want to
be criticized cannot lead successfully.
He specifically reminded president Buhari that he came to power in
2015 through propaganda and criticisms on social media.
“You can’t plan to regulate the powerful tool that brought you to power in 2015.
“Has he forgotten so soon that social media played a prominent role in
electing him into the office in 2015?
“They first tried it through a Senator representing Kebbi South
Senatorial District, Bala ibn Na’ Allah but didn’t work. I can tell
you that their plan won’t stand.
“If not social media, this government would have caged the people.
Where would they start from?
“In America, people criticize Trump on a daily basis without
intimidation. A good leader admits all blame and looking for ways to
make the people smile,” said Giwa.
