Cleric to Muslims: Take good care of your wives to earn paradise

By Ahmed Ajikobi
An Imam of Durotioluwa Mosque, Akerebiata area, Ilorin, Kwara State,
Ustaz Abdulgafar Abdulkareem has urged Muslims to honour and take very
good care of their wives as instructed by Almighty Allah in the
Glorious Qur’an.
The Islamic Cleric further advised that Muslims should not avoid any
act that might amount to neglecting their spouses and rather provide
all necessary things to make them comfortable within the means of the
husband.
According to him, Muslim husbands that failed to provide for their
wives as prescribed by Almighty Allah and related by the Prophet will
be punished on the day of judgement.
Abdulkareem who was a guest, gave the advice in his sermon (Khutbah)
during last Friday service, noting Allah’s permission for man to be
the head over woman and control over them was not an opportunity to
enslave them.
He said that it’s not right for a man to force his wife to do things
against her will, adding that “If your wife prefers a small hijab
instead of putting on the long flowing jalbab, let her be and do not
force her.
“Man don’t have control over his wife’s businesses, woman also has
equal right as man. The Muslim husband must fulfill his right on his
wife, treat her right and should not enslave her.
“If your wife offends you, her punishment must not be one to disturb
her peace and the wife should also remember that their right is to
follow and obey their husband.
“Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said if he has the power, he will order the
wives to bow for their husbands always as the head of the house”, he
added.
Abdulkareem stressed that men should fear Allah in their dealings and
disposition with their wives, adding that the wives should follow the
injunction of Allah to keep their body for their husbands.
“Man should protect his wife with what he has. Anyone who protects and
defend his wife and die in the process, such person will be granted
martyrdom and Aljanat Firdaos, same with those who are slain in the
battle for Islam”, he submitted.
