Ighalo, Brume, D’Tigress shine at 2019 Nigerian Sports Award

 

Odion Ighalo, former Super Eagles striker, has been named footballer
of the year at the 2019 Nigerian Sports Award.
The 2019 edition was held at the Eko Hotel and Suites on Friday night.
Ighalo, who had an outstanding performance for Nigeria before retiring
from international football, won the gong after he emerged highest
goal scorer at the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
He was also the highest goal scorer during the African showpiece in
Egypt during the summer.
Ese Brume was the biggest winner of the award night, where she carted
home the athlete and sports woman of the year gongs.
Brume won bronze medal for Nigeria at the 2019 World Athletics
Championship in Doha in long jump.
D’ Tigress, current African basketball champion, were crowned team of
the year, beating Nigeria U-19 handball team and the Super Eagles to
the award.
Dare Kuti, Aclsports journalist, won the journalist of the year award
in print category while Victor Modo of Modzero secured the photo
journalist of the year gong.
The Nigerian Sports Award is an annual award to celebrate sport men
and women, sport writers and sport administrators who have worked hard
in the year in view.

Team Sports Person of the year: Farouk Yusuf
Wrestler of the year: Odunayo Adekuruoye
Para-Sports Person of the year: Bose Omolayo
Basketball Player of the year: Evelyn Akathor
Coach of the year: Christopher Nwadei
Sports Administrator of the year(Handball): Sam Ocheho
Sports administrator of the year (Badminton): Onome Obruthe
