Taekwondo: Nwosu rank 16th in the world

 

2019 African Games champion, Chinazum Nwosu is now ranked 16th in the
December 2019 World Taekwondo ranking released by the world body.
Chinazum Nwosu won Nigeria’s first gold medal at the 2019 African
Games in Rabat, Morocco
Nwosu who started the year at 32nd place in February moved 16 places
and this increased pressure on her to qualify for the Tokyo 2020
Olympics.
The biggest winner was male -68kg competitor, Ifeoluwa Ajayi who rose
from 501 to be ranked 96th in the world after having a busy
international year.
Team male captain and -87kg competitor, Sunday Onofe, rose from 166 to
a current world ranking of 77 while Nigeria Army athlete, Benjamin
Okuomose moved up 75 places to current ranking of 67
Elizabeth Anyanacho, who is a student of the Federal University of
Technology Owerri rose 35 places from 120th position to 85th in the
female -67kg category, while bronze medalist Vivian Ndu saw her
ranking improve from 338 to 119.

The reverse was the case for former African Champion, Uzoamaka
Otuadinma, who has fallen out of the top 100 in the world.
The former champion, who a point in 2017 was the 35th player in the
world saw her ranking plummet to 87 by February this year and take a
further dive to a current position of 135.
Despite its vast talents, Nigeria Taekwondo athletes suffers heavily
and lacks proper representation on the world taekwondo ranking because
of the lack of international participation at World Taekwondo events.
