The end to the leadership crisis rocking the Kwara State chapter of
the All Progressives Congress (APC) may not be in sight following a
dirty supremacy battle that had engulfed Governor Abdulrahman
Abdulrazaq Support Group.
In a leaked audio tape that has since gone viral in many social media
and online platforms, a top chieftain of the party from Moro, Kwara
North, Hon Ibrahim Iliasu alleged that some elders of the party under
the name Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq Progressives, (AAP) operate like a
secret society perpetrating occultic and fraudulent activities for
political gain.
Iliasu claimed that he is the founder and coordinator of Abdulrahman
Abdulrazaq Support Group (AASG) in the state.
The audio, coming a little over a month that a similar one by Iliasu
was also leaked gave a rare and fresh insight into the deep acrimony
and rivalry that has characterised the political camp of the Governor.
According to Iliasu, the AAP which comprised 18 members, six each
drawn from the three senatorial districts in the state was responsible
for the larger part of the APC’s leadership mess adding that they
engaged the modus operandi replete with occultic activities.
He listed the members of the AAP to include; Senator Ahmed Mohammed,
former Kwara State speaker, Isa Benjamin, former Commissioner of
National Population Commission Alhaji Abubakar Ndakene, Elder Wole Oke
and Kalilu Katibi from Kwara North.
Others are pioneer Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman in Kwara
State, Barr. Kunle Suleiman, Ayinla Folorunsho, Iliasu Iponrin and
Kobe among others from Kwara Central Senatorial District. According to
him, members of AAP recruited from Kwara South are; former factional
chairman of the PDP in the state, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, Sen. Bisi
Oyewo, Ayeni Iderin, MT Lawal among others.
Explaining their Modus Operandi, Iliasu said AAP group invited him and
Senator Ajadi to partake in their to swear with the Qur’an and Bible
before stepping over a gun and cutlass for evil and calamity
prescribed by the holy scriptures to befall any of them that betrays
the group.
“I founded the AASG to promote and instill the ideas of the Governor.
But those that are unfaithful that had betrayed the party in the past
like Barr. Kunle Suleiman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi among others who
usually thrive on sabotage are here with us again. When they saw that
I have started AASG and it was flourishing, they attempted to hijack
it with the formation of 18-member Kwara Elder’s council, six each
drawn from the three senatorial districts in the state zone.
“I was invited to join them but I refused because I said I cannot be a
member of a secret society. They also went to invite Ajadi who also
turned them down saying he cannot step-over a gun or make any ritual
all because of politics.
“They put down a gun and a cutlass and demand that we step-over it
with the oath of allegiance and that we should swear with the Qur’an
or Bible depending on your faith adding that calamity and misfortune
will befall any one of us that betrays the group.
“But when they could not hijack the AASG group because it has been
registered, they went ahead to form another group AAP. They are 419
people and they will soon be destroyed”, he stated.
Iliasu however said both the group of Ajadi and AASG will soon merge
due to the common goal of wanting the government to succeed.
Speaking on the highly disputed APC primaries that produced the
Governor, Iliasu revealed that Abdulrazaq did not win in wards like
Obbo-Aiyegunle, Ekiti Logal Government, Mogaji Ngeri in Iloirn West,
Asa and Shao in Kwara North.
He said, “Those party leaders like Fagbemi, Suleiman, Folorunsho and
Oke who give the impression of being close to the governor lost their
polling units and even wards during the governorship primary.”
The former lawmaker claimed that the entire 16 commissioners-designate
appointed by the Governor were picked from AASG due to the trust and
confidence reposed in the group.
Hon Iliasu’s son is one of the commissioners-designate awaiting
inauguration. The AASG with new chapters across the local government
is widely believed to be the political structure of the Governor.
Effort to get one of the accused party chieftains, Fagbemi was not
successful last night, as his phone was switched off.
