FAAN bars individuals, agencies from protocol activities

Individuals and agencies have been barred from escorting passengers or conducting any type of protocol activity after Immigration process for departing passengers, and before immigration process for arriving passengers at the nation’s airports by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
This move may not be unconnected to the image portrayed by Very Important Personnel (VIPs) whose aides come to the avio bridges of the aircraft to receive their principals, and most times in the process militarizing the environment and causing melee, in their zeal to serve.
This challenge is mostly experienced because many overzealous security personnel who come to receive or see off their superiors, tend to turn protocol officers and cause pandemonium at the airports.
In a statement issued by the General Manager, Corporate Affairs FAAN, Mrs. Henrietta Yakubu further explained that only FAAN protocol services and the designated Ministry of Foreign Affairs Officers are to be found around in line with the Ease of Doing Business.
Her statement in part read,”In line with provisions of the Federal Government’s directive on the Ease of Doing Business, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has directed that apart from FAAN protocol services and the designated Ministry of Foreign Affairs Officers, no individual or agency is allowed to escort Passengers or Conduct any type of protocol activity after Immigration process for Departing Passengers, and before immigration process for arriving Passengers at the Airports.
“Consequently, in the interest of our common Safety and Comfort, all Passengers, agencies, and other stakeholders are requested to kindly align their airport activities accordingly.
“In a similar vein, passengers are also advised to please kindly desist from coming to the airports with groups of friends and relatives. This is aimed at enhancing the Safety, Comfort, and efficient facilitation of human and vehicular traffic at the airports.
