Legislative aides from Kwara State appointed by former Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki during the 8th National Assembly received their severance allowances yesterday, this medium can report.
It was gathered that the payment which ranged from N1.4 to N2.8m depending on the number of years they served began came as a huge relief to many of them who have been highly expectant.
Saraki had confirmed the receipt of his own severance payment by the National Assembly last week which he ordered to be distributed among families of colleagues who died during his tenure for their educational pursuits, the families of Leah Sharibu and others staff of the National Assembly in line with his earlier promised.
The payment was seen by many of the recipients as huge financial relief and a blessing in disguise coming at a period some considered financially challenging in the present administration in the state.
Speaking on the issue last night, one of the beneficiaries, Alhaji Saliu Muhammed Okemi heaped praises on Bukola Saraki and called on his colleagues to reach out to others among their families and relatives to widen the impact.
“First and foremost, I give thanks to Almighty Allah and Dr Bukola Saraki. With the situation of things in Nigeria today most especially in Kwara, to now have this, I don’t even know what to say. I have been to the Central Mosque and gave money to the management of the mosque to buy fuel or diesel for the generating set. I also gave alms to the less privilege, I spend more than N20,000 to appreciate God for what He had done for me through Saraki. We have been expecting it.
“It was the opportunity that Saraki has as the Senate President that made it spread to this level. We are over hundred. Saraki has no brother, son or daughter among all of us that benefitted but being leader of the party, he embraced all of us. I really appreciate the Senate President and we pray Allah to return him for us because of the enormous benefits that the position of the Senate President has and his zeal to use his position to serve his people.
“Some that benefited today have defected to the APC to tell you that the impact of this payment is enormous and cut across party lines in the state. I appealed to all of us beneficiaries to reach out to the less privileged from this money to spread the favour across the state”, he added.
Also, another aide, Wale Saka on his twitter handle thank Saraki for the opportunity and pray Allah to continue to shower blessing on him.
“Today, myself and hundreds of Kwaran received our Severance allowance package as Legislative aides under the amiable leadership of Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki (@BukolaSaraki). May Almighty Allah continue to shower his blessings on our leader (Amin)”
