The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has said outcome of the just concluded House of Assembly by-election for the Patigi constituency has shown that people of the state have lost faith in the administration of Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq.
A statement by the state Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Tunde Ashaolu, noted that the low turnout of voters recorded during the election is consequent upon people’s disappointment in the Governor owing to his lacklustre performance in office.
“Governor Abdulrazaq is a laggard and has without doubt performed below the expectations of Kwarans who elected him. He has not only irredeemably failed to fulfill any of his electoral promises but has also shamelessly denied several of the promises.
It is now crystal clear to the people of Kwara that the Governor and his party were not prepared for governance. This is evidenced by the lingering crisis rocking the party, which is definitely taking its toll on performance of the governor.
“It should be of concern to all Kwarans that the present government has failed to neither formulate any sustainable policy nor implement any tangible project that will improve the lives of the people.
“The party also notes that Governor Abdulrazaq’s claim of transparency and accountability in the management of the State resources is a big lie and charade. The government has refused to tell Kwarans the monthly revenue inflow of the State in terms of allocation and internal revenue and the amount accruing to the local councils from the IGR, as it was the usual practice during the last PDP administration,” the statement added.
The party however, expressed appreciation to members, supporters and the people of Patigi for standing by the party and its candidate, Mohammed Yahaya in the by-election.
It commended members and supporters of the party for their determination and conduct during the exercise, stressing that the Kwara PDP is committed to a peaceful and credible elections.
The statement noted that the level of support the PDP received from the people of Patigi despite provocation and heavy inducement by the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, indicated that people still have belief in the party.
“While we may not have won the election, our party appreciates the solidarity and support we received from the people of Patigi, even in the face of intimidation and financial inducement by officials of the All Progressives Congress. This shows that people still have faith in the PDP,” the statement said.
The Kwara PDP also commiserated with the family of its member, who lost his life during the  by-election was going.
“We pray to God Almighty to forgive his shortcomings and grant his family members, relatives and friends the fortitude to bear this huge loss.”
The party then urged its supporters and the entire people of Kwara State to keep faith with the PDP and continue to support the party.
