FSARS Disbandment: Reforms to restore order to police – Frank Mba

The Nigeria Police Force has said the current reform of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) will bring the police closer to the people.

Frank Mba, the force spokesperson, said this on Wednesday on Channels Television.

On Monday, the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, had ordered the immediate disbandment of the FSARS and directed that all quasi-investigation and operations outfits, including the Special Investigation Panel (SIP) and Special Tactical Squad (STS) also be disbanded.

The police spokesman said the reform will bring the police closer to the people and restore order to the force.

Mba noted that the reform is just a tip of the iceberg among very many reforms the IGP is bringing to the force.

“It will correct every anomaly, bureaucratic bottleneck and bring the police closer to the people. The reform is not going to be cosmetic. We are not going to deal with just nomenclature issues. The IGP is committed to this willpower and has directed the command CPS on his policy direction in this regard,” Mba said.

“Decentralisation of SARS is to ensure unity of command and control and in line with democratic and community policing. This is just a tip of the iceberg among very many reforms IGP MA ADAMU mni is bringing to the force.

“We are committed to giving Nigerians the best security arrangement in the general election with equal playing ground and adequate security for all. As the lead agency in internal security, we will work with other security and safety agencies to ensure a safe and secure environment.”
