Meanwhile, according to report, the woman identified as Muskura Bibi, 23, stunned medics when she delivered the tot, who was born with fused legs, in Kolkata, India.
The rare phenomenon is known as Mermaid Syndrome, or Sirenomelia, and was the second such case in the country and the fifth in the world. It was gathered that before giving birth, Muskura hadn’t gone for a sonogram and only discovered her baby’s condition when she gave birth in Chittaranjan Deva Sadan Hospital on Wednesday.
The baby’s gender couldn’t be determined due to the rare condition and it tragically died four hours after it was born.
Dr Sudip Saha, child specialist at the hospital said: “I had never seen such a baby before. It is the first case of Sirenomelia in the state and second in the country.
“The baby had normal formation in upper part of the body but below the waist its legs were fused together. The lower part was not developed completely.
