Resumption: We’ve not received directive from KWSG – Principals

By Mike Adeyemi
Proprietors in Kwara State seem not ready to resume academics activities for the Senior Secondary School (SSS3) students as directed by the Federal Government.
Speaking under anonymity with our reporter yesterday, some schools proprietors disagreed with the resumption date as there was no valid directive by the Kwara State Government.
A teacher at Queen Elizabethan School who spoke under anonymity said the directive by the Federal Government is a very good idea owing to the long overstay of students t home as a result of containments of the scourge of covid-19.
“Actually it is a very good idea. We cannot continue to keep our students for such a long time off academic actions. My fear is that most States are yet ready for the resumption in terms of meeting up the regulations for school openings.
“Many Schools are yet to get their vicinity fumigated and up till now, we have not gotten any directive by the Kwara state Government to resume. As at today, no signal from the state government that we will resume tomorrow. I can only assure you that staff will be coming to school tomorrow, but students are not coming,” he said.
Similarly, a proprietor of a college in the state who pleaded anonymity said there hasn’t be any directive by the Kwara state government to resume schools on Monday.
“From what our national body told us, we are asked to get ready, clear our surroundings, and make available all the precautionary measure to tame the scourge of coronal virus.
“We haven’t got any directive from the Kwara State Government,” he said.
In his view, another proprietor name withheld acknowledged mute silence from the part of the Kwara State Government on the issue of schools August 3 resumption.
“To the best of my knowledge, I have not heard anything or news from the Kwara State Government. The only source of our information was via the National Association of Proprietors Unions that instructs schools to resume tomorrow.
“NAPS stands as intermediary between the proprietors and the ministry of education. No any directive from the Kwara State Government on resumption”, he stressed.
All efforts to get the reactions of the Kwara State Ministry of Education by this medium prove abortive as all calls to her were not answered. Also the commissioner for communication, Harriet Afolabi-Oshatimehin also refused to comment on the issue when asked.
