A yet to be identified suspect at the weekend escaped from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) custody, Kwara State Command, National Pilot can report.
It was gathered that the suspect who is a Fulani man was arrested for attempted murder of some of his friends recently.
Confirming the incident yesterday ,the state Public Relations Officer of Kwara NSCDC command, Ayeni Olasunkanmi during a telephone chat, told our reporter that the suspect escaped by destroying the burglary.
He, however, said that the suspect has been res-arrested and kept under close watch by operatives, while investigation is ongoing on how he escaped from the cell.
“No one can explain how he managed to bend the burglary with bare hands. So investigation is going on to know the means used by him to get out of the cell,” he further said.
On what led to the suspect’s arrest, Ayeni narrated that the suspect, unprovoked, went berserk and shoot sporadically at his friends.
Fortunately, the friends were said to have escaped unhurt and reported the incident to the NSCDC office.
“He was at the farm of his friends for a visit. One of the friends kept his gun on his motorcycle. Suddenly the suspect went to where the motorcycle was parked, picked the gun and took to his heels. The friends gave him a hot Chase and at a point he turned back and fired shots at them. They were however lucky as none of them was hit by the bullets. The case was reported at our office.
Ayeni further said that, “a man hunt was launched in collaboration with the vigilante group of that area. The suspect was eventually arrested and handed over to NSCDC officers at Oke-Oyi.
“While in the custody he managed to escape and officers were able to re-arrest him.”
