Governor Abdulrazaq Abdulrahman on Friday in Ilorin reportedly breached security protocol during the Jumat service as his aides scaled the mosque fence and broke the padlock that was used to lock one of the gates.
The governor’s action, it was gathered, was to allow him attend the weekly service which was already on when he arrived with the Emir of Kano, Ade Bayero who paid a historic visit to his Ilorin counterpart and brother, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari in attendance.
Eyewitnesses who confirmed the development to National Pilot on Sunday said the Governor came through the gate that was adjacent to Gambari junction when the Chief Imam was already giving the Khutba (sermon)
One of the security men at the facility said the “The gate was already locked because we were told about his coming. We don’t normally open the gate except of we are informed by his security details that he is coming.
“But on this occasion, there was nothing like that and all of sudden we just say his entourage and the gate was already locked. But one of his details scaled the fence and used a stone to force the door open to allow him in. I think he prayed outside the mosque before he left”, the official said.
Meanwhile, the Kano, Ado Bayero on rounded off his historic three days visit to Kwara State on Saturday.
The colourful ceremony was witnessed by mammoth crowd who accompanied the Emir from the airport to the palace.
The monarch and his younger brother who is also the Emir of Bichi, Alhaji Nasiru Ado Bayero, are grandsons to the late 8th Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji AbdulKadir Dan Bawa who reigned from 1919 to 1959.
But speaking on the purpose of his visit on Friday after visiting Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq disclosed that he had come to the ancient town to receive blessings from his maternal roots.
He also commiserated with the Governor over the loss of his father AGF AbdulRazaq SAN, praying Allah to repose the soul of the sage. Kano Emir, Ado Bayero finally breaks silence on why he visited Kwara
His words: “The purpose of my visit is to be back home, where I belong. To me, Kano and Ilorin are the same thing. Here is my home – maternal side – and I am happy to always be here. This is not my first time of coming, it is not the second and, in fact, I cannot even count the number of times I have come here. But this is unique because this is the first time I am coming to Ilorin after ascending the throne of my ancestors. I thank God for that.
“So, I come to have the blessings of my maternal side and leaders who I believe contributed a lot to the development of life up till this stage. Whether you are from Kwara, from Kano or anywhere, the most important thing is to send the message that we are one and the same. That is how God wanted it to be. If God wants us all to be from one place or culture, he can make that but he didn’t do that. There must be a purpose for that. So, we have to accept that, live by that and help those that need help among us.”
In his remarks, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq said the traditional institutions are vital to the growth and peaceful coexistence of the society as they play key roles in the stability of the polity.
