2023: No decision on zoning yet — Kwara PDP

By Mumini AbdulKareem
The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said it is yet to decide if the party will zone the governorship position ahead of the 2023 general election.
This was disclosed by the State Chairman of the party, Engineer Kola Shitu in Ilorin last week while addressing some protesters who stormed the party’s secretariat demanding clarification on the issue.
Scores of party members from Moro local government area of the state had stormed the secretariat in protest over a radio interview granted by one of the party officials which appeared to suggest that the position had been zoned.
The protesters said they were irked by some remarks made by the said party official which they regarded as an attack on Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi over his purported plan to contest the governorship position from Moro local government.
While appealing to the protesters, the party chairman noted that the interview did not reflect the position of the party as the party is yet to have a position on the matter.
He also used the opportunity to warn party officials and members to desist from actions that could cause crisis within the party.
Also large number of youths from Ilorin West local government also visited the party office on Thursday last week in protest over the same interview. The youths, numbering in hundreds, demanded an apology over the interview which they described as “reckless and offensive” and capable of throwing the party into crisis.
The party chairman also appealed to the youths, while reaffirming his earlier statement to the protesters from Moro and promised that the party will take a disciplinary action against the said party official.
The interview, it was gathered, has caused disquiet amongst officials of the party who were said to have been offended that one of them had attempted to present his personal sentiments as the official position of the party.
