The decision by the Secretary to the Kwara State Government (SSG), Prof. Mamman Jibril to pick up a lecturing appointment at the state owned College of Education, Ilorin last night raised some dusts over the purpose for the engagement, National Pilot has learnt.
Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has been criticized over the evolvement with insinuations that he is running a sole administratorship without necessary input from relevant officers such as the SSG in key decisions.
A source who spoke on the issue last night told this medium that many concerned Kwarans were perturbed about this development considering the enormous administrative task before the SSG as the scribe of the state government.
According to him “The SSG has picked up a lecturing job at COED, Ilorin and the reason for this is because the Governor is making less use of him. That is almost the same scenario with many of the appointees in this era of sole-administratorship. And as an academic, he won’t seat down and rot away. He has to engage himself. The office of the SSG is a very busy office and we know how those that occupied it before and even in other states used to function.
Although several efforts to the SSG’s reaction on Sunday was not successful as calls and text message sent to him were neither answered nor replied up to the time the paper want to bed.
Also designated officials in the institution did not respond to inquiries last night on the development.
But a top staff of the institution who confirmed the development because he was not authorized to speak officially on the matter said the SSG was lecturing at the school as part of social service.
He said “Yes, the Secretary to the Kwara State Government lectures here as part of his contribution to this college which is his Alma Mata. He is not on official engagement, but he is purely rendering a social service as an Alumnus of the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin. And coming from the academia, he finds it difficult to divulge himself from the system.
“He has been with us for over a session now and he has been up and doing in his class. He lectures Geography for the National Certificate of Education (NCE) at the college”, the source added.
