Govt alone cannot end insecurity in Nigeria, says cleric

...as Bode DeWay's father buried in Oro

Nigerians have been charged to join hands with government at all levels in order to bring an end to the insecurity challenge facing the country.
The Parish of St. Andrew Catholic Church, Oro, Reverend Father (Dr) Joseph Awoyale stated this at the weekend during the funeral service of Pa Felix Ayanda Oyedepo in Oro, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Awoyale, who was the Officiating Minister during the Internment of Pa Oyedepo said given that Nigeria is the ‘USA of Africa’, it will not be reasonable to entrust the government alone with the responsibility of ensuring the security of lives and property in the nation.
According to him, Nigerians must consider security as everybody’s business.
Revd Awoyale said, “It is not an easy task to secure lives and property in a big country like Nigeria. We should forget the idea of expecting government to do it all, let us act as security agents in our respective communities.
“If you see a strange face, call the attention of others. Let us monitor happenings around us and secure our areas.”
Speaking on the life and times of the deceased, Awoyale described the late Pa Oyedepo as a devout Christian, who served God till he breathed his last.
“I was very close to him. He never had issues with anyone or cause trouble and he was good-natured.
“He made all needed efforts to get close to God and God crowned his efforts before his death.
“In the Catholic Church, we have what is called sacrament of the Holy Communion. Baba used to take it but he later stopped. Pa Oyedepo later began to take sacrament of Holy Communion and he also attended catechism classes which was quite unusual for a man of his age”.
Speaking with newsmen, the eldest child of the deceased; Mrs. Oluwayemisi Ayelaagbe, described her father as a mentor, a teacher and cheerful giver who will be sorely missed by all.
Meanwhile, the Oro Community has commiserated with the Oyedepo family over the demise of Pa Felix Oyedepo describing the deceased as a community leader who preached peace and harmony in his family and the community.
The National Public Relations Officer of Oro Community, Mr. Muritala Adebayo Olodan said in a statement that the community will miss the leadership role of the deceased.
