Eid-el-Fitri: Ilorin Eid ground heavily flooded days to Sallah

…cttee to meet today on next line of action

By Mike Adeyemi
With the heavy flood that has enclaved the Ilorin Central Eid prayer ground, Muslims in the state have continue to raise concern over the likelihood of getting the facility ready before the end of ongoing Ramadan.
When our reporter visited the place on Sunday, it was observed that a large portion of the prayer ground was heavily water logged and one section of the road was barricaded to avoid unsuspecting motorists, motorcyclists and pedestrians among others being victims of the logged areas.
Many of those playing the road were forced to divert to a single at the front of the Eid.
But when contacted, a long serving chairman of Ilorin Eid Prayer Ground Committee, Dr. Abdulrasaq Amuda assured that the place will be ready for the festival.
Amuda stated this yesterday while answering questions from our reporter via a telephone chart.
According to him, “an evacuator has been stationed at the place to deflood the affected portion at the eid prayer ground.’
“If you can go there now, there is an evacuating truck trying to deflood the affected area of the place.
“In Nigeria and Kwara State inclusive, people dump refuse along the drainages when they come to Eid and for a very long time now, the government of Kwara state has been up and doing about it, ” he said.
He further added that the various boards in charge of the facilities will meet and harmonise their decision on the issue.
“We will be having a special meeting on Monday (today). It will be all encompassing as we will harmonise things. We have several committees on eids and my own committee is saddled organising the eid praying ground which I have chaired since 1996.
“Ours is to make sure people come there to pray without any problem. So by tomorrow (Monday) we will make an official position of the various committees known in readiness for the eid-el-fitri celebration”, he added.
