Kwara NUJ Election: Accolades as Umar takes campaign to Correspondents’ Chapel
Senior journalists on Thursday poured encomiums on the Chairman of Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ ), Comrade Umar Adebayo AbdulWahab as he kick-started the campaign for his re- election at his primary constituency, the Correspondents’ Chapel.
After delivering his stewardship/ manifestos, the Chairman of the League of Veteran Journalists (NALVEJ), Alh Tunde Akanbi commended Umar for the eloquent presentation of his achievements in the last three years and his re-election agenda.
Leaders and elders of the Council present at the event, including Elder Wole Adedeji, Messrs Stephen Oni, Tunde Oyekola, Gbenga Olarinoye and Alh Abdullahi Olesin nodded in affirmation of Akanbi’s remarks.
Umar’s presentation was also greeted with loud applause from the journalists present at the event.
Akanbi said: “We are proud of you and we are impressed by your eloquent presentation. You are a pride of Kwara Council of NUJ as you can hold your own at any gathering.”
Another senior journalist, Mr Nicholas Uweru of the Daily Independent newspapers corroborated Akanbi’s comments, claiming to have known Umar for a very long period of time and hailing his brilliance and candour.
Earlier, Umar had said that his executive facilitated training programmes for at least 44 members of the union, listing two veterans, Elder Wole Adedeji and Mr Stephen Oni as beneficiaries.
He said his administration also facilitated the complete rehabilitation of the NUJ Press Centre, thanking Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for approving over N17m for the project.
He added that his administration also attracted the donation of a motorized borehole to the press centre from the Lower Niger River Basin Authority, Ilorin, the first in all the Councils across the country.
The NUJ chairman, who promised to improve upon his legacies if reelected, pledged to prioritize the welfare and training and retraining of members of the union.
He thanked the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, past leaders and elders of the Council and generality of the union members for their support for his administration.
