Phone theft: 28-yr-old gets 8-months imprisonment

A Magistrate Court sitting in Kaiama, Kaiama LGA in Kwara state has sentenced one Mohammed Abubakar to prison for theft, for trespassing and theft, Abubakar was sentenced to 8-month imprisonment in Federal correctional centre New Bussa, Niger State.

It was stated in a release signed by the Kwara Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC) at about 10:30am, 16th of July 2021 the owner of the infinix phone made a direct complain at Magistrate court Kaiama and the suspect was arrested.

The suspect who is a native of Tambuwal in Sokoto state was handed over by Nigerian Army. He was alleged to have stolen the sum of seventy thousand naira #70,000 at the cattle market and as he was about to escape from the town, branched at a filling station with his motorcycle to buy  fuel and he equally stole a phone belonging to the  petrol  attendance.

The incident occurred on the 15th of July 2021 around 6:45pm at cattle market in Kaima, Kaima LGA of Kwara state. He was intercepted by the vigilante members and handed him over to the military personnel at the checking point close to the place of his arrest.

Exhibits recovered from him include the sum of seventy thousand naira (#70,000), two stolen phones; Infinix smart phone 5 and Maxfone VII with three silver rings.

Presented before the court for hearing, the presiding judge, Magistrate Ajide however charged him for trespass and theft and was remanded for 8-months in prison’s custody.
