Ogun: Swiss national, driver still in kidnappers’ den three days after abduction

A Swiss national, Andred Beita, who was kidnapped alongside his driver, along the Itori-Ibese road in Ogun State, is still in the den of his abductors, three days after.

It has earlier been reported that Beita, an expatriate with Olabel Farms, was coming from Ilaro with policemen attached to him, when he ran into an ambush.

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers reportedly opened fire on the policemen, who engaged them in a gun duel and succeeded in killing two of them.

While the unknown gunmen also killed a staffer of the farm, Michael Kujore, they succeeded in taking away the Swiss and one Ifeanyi, his driver.

The Ogun State Police Spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, told newsmen on Sunday that the police were on the trail of the kidnappers.

According to him, the police were working with local vigilantes to locate the abductees and rescue them unhurt from their abductors.

It was however learnt that the kidnapped expatriate and his driver are yet to be rescued as of Tuesday morning.

When contacted, police image maker Oyeyemi told our correspondent that “there is no update yet.”

He added that the command is on top of the situation.

Meanwhile, kidnapping for ransom has turned into a lucrative business in Ogun State.

Students, health workers, traders, farmers, chief and foreign nationals were taken into custody by the so-called unknown gunmen.

No fewer than two policemen were killed during gun battles with the suspected kidnappers.

Our correspondent gathered that millions of Naira have been paid in ransom by families of those kidnapped; though the police said they were never a party to that.
