Exclusive: Ilorin Customs boss kidnap: two suspects arrested

Following the abduction of retired deputy comptroller of Customs ,Zarma Muhammed Bah in his farm on Thursday, men of the neighborhood security watchmen, popularly called Vigilante in that area have nabbed two men suspected to be members of the Kidnapping gang on Saturday while combing the bush.
The suspects, according to one of the operatives, were caught along H & C farm.
“Several charms, accessories,ropes and bandage were recovered from the suspects”, the source disclosed. The vigilantes brought the suspects to Budo Nuhu police station and matter was transferred to police headquarters for further Investigation.
“The suspects have been in that premises for about 10 days and they confessed to be working for Bororo fulanis .Investigation is ongoing,” said the source.
When contacted on the new development,the kwara state police command spokesperson SP Ajayi Okasanmi said he was yet to be informed adding that he will get back to our reporter.
The retired Deputy Comptroller of Nigeria Customs Service was kidnapped in a Rambo style on Thursday last week by unknown gunmen who stormed his Egbejila/ Okejia farm via Obate area at around 6:30 pm.
It was learnt that, the suspects trekked in to the area through the bush fully armed with AK-47 and started shooting sporadically in the air which made other farmers run for their dear lives.
The gunmen who were said to be speaking a particular language of Nigeria stormed the Customs boss’ fish farm and took him away to unknown destination through the same bush.
The suspects’ escape route, it was gathered, links Ogele,Arowosaye,Pampo village and the main tarred road links to Afon village in Asa Local Government Area.
Other farmers in the embattled area while lamenting state of insecurity and the attendant threat to their lives and property, called for deployment of security men, including soldiers, policemen and Vigilante to secure the aforementioned routes.
The kwara state police command,under the leadership of CP Tuesday Assayomo had on Friday deployed relevant assets both human and material for the rescue of the abducted retired Customs boss.
In a press statement released by the command spokesperson SP Ajayi Okasanmi, four empty shells of expended ammunition were recovered by the Command’s operatives who visited the scene after the incident.
“The CP wishes to assure the family of the victim and indeed the general public that no effort would be spared in getting the victim rescued unhurt and possibly arrest the perpetrators of the crime ”
It would be recalled that National Pilot had reported that several attempts to kidnap in that area had been made by this unknown people.
According to the report published in November last year, masked men suspected to be kidnappers stormed the Egbejila, Isale-Odo communities sending waves of fear among the residents.
It was gathered that masked armed men have made the area their den terrorizing the peace of the farmers and community members in that area.
The attack on the farmers and the community member by unidentified men,was gathered to have started around May 2021 and gradually growing wings.
Findings by National Pilot revealed that, the unknown armed men have severally attacked some of the farmers and inflicted several injuries on them.
On 27th October last year,an incident happened when three masked men with machetes launched an attack on one man,Wasiu Ajimati while on his motorcycle and inflicted several injuries on him before he managed to escape the attack.
That attack, according to the spokesperson of the farmers, Aluko was reported to Budo Nuru Police division, Airport area, Ilorin. with the police promising to look into the matter.
Police spokesperson, Okasanmi had told National Pilot then that he was not aware when contacted, but promised to swing into action and assure that security will be deployed to the embattled area.
“I’m not aware but I will contact the police division to ask of the matter. We are going to investigate the matter and police patrol will be deployed into that area,” Okasanmi had told National Pilot last year.
