Olobi becomes Oja-Tuntun unit NURTW chair

...says no to thuggery, set to engage jobless youths

Alhaji Sikiru Olobi popularly known as Olobi has been announced as the Chairman National Union of Road Transport Workers (Truck), Oja-Tuntun Unit of Ilorin, Kwara State.

Olobi, was on Sunday, along with his other executive members, inaugurated by the state body of the association led by the state vice Chairman, Alhaji Babatunde Hammed.

The Vice Chairman, Hammed advised the newly inaugurated executives to make good use of their office to pilot the affairs of the unit.

He also warned them not to condone any bad act that will tarnish his name, unit and the entire union adding that hooliganism in the union is not acceptable.

Speaking with National Pilot, Olobi thanked the state executives for giving him the opportunity to become the Chairman of the Unit.

“The state executives decided to give us Ojatuntun Unit based on our activities towards the development of our great union. We worked with NURTW Okolowo Branch for seven years. Working together with them gave me more edge.

“Our excellent performance as co-workers with Okolowo Branch stood us out. When we requested for Ojatuntun Unit, the state executives considered us. Our State Chairman, Alhaji Ariwo-ola approved it.”

“He promised that, he would do all within his power to sanitize against all the illegal activities of the people in that area.

“I will keep to the warnings of our state executives to sanitize the unit. I will not harbor any form of criminalities. I will stand on the good foundation our chairman had laid down for us.”

Olobi condemned act of thuggery among the youths, stressing that it will lead them astray.

He said that all the jobless youths roaming around Ojatuntun/Adabata would be engaged with certain things.

“All those youths smoking marijuana will be enlightened on the danger in it and try to reshape their lives.

“Some of them will be given some responsibilities in the union. The union has recruited some and others who are yet to be recruited will undergo certain activities to keep them away from smoking marijuana among others.

“None of the street boys in my unit will be seen involving in any criminal activities as I will not condone any act of such.”

Olobi said the unit under his administration will embrace peace and collaborate with the administration of State Chairman Ariwo Ola, to build a better commercial transportation system in that unit.

“Every worker under my unit will have union badge that will carry a serial number. If any of the workers misbehaves it will be easier to locate him. Also any act of extortion made by them will be easily reported and justice will be done.

“Every truck that enters Oja-Tuntun will get a sticker that will entail chairman’s and treasurer’s number for them to call in case of any complaint.”

Among the dignitaries in attendance are, Alhaji Babatunde Hammed, State trustee, Muhammed Jamiu, Alhaji Abdulrasheed Ajile, L.O Head Office Abuja, Bashir Bello, Chairman Majiyagbe Lorry Ojatuntun, Alhaji Dauda Anafi, Chairman Okolowo Lorry, Alhaji Alarafa Yusuf among others.
