Tunji Buhari left PDP to avoid sanction over embezzlement – Party

The Kwara State chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Ilorin East local government area, Alhaji Dare Aliu Garba has explained the main reason behind the defection of former Organising Secretary of the party, Sulyman Tunji Buhari, to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
Garba in a statement on Thursday, said Buhari defected to avoid impending sanction by the party for alleged embezzlement of party’s fund meant for the payment of the Secretariat rent
He described the defection as good riddance, stressing that Buhari as ‘dead wood ‘ was already a liability to the party.
According to him “Tunji left our party because of the disciplinary action about to be taken against him by the party leadership when he could not account for funds given to him to renew rent for the party’s State Secretariat.
“Following his failure to account for the said money, he hurriedly resigned his position from the State Executive Council. This was the beginning of his issue with the party until he was able to refund the money two weeks ago”, Garba added.
The statement reads in part:
“Kwara PDP in Ilorin East local government is better off without Tunji Buhari who has been a liability to the party. We had long expected him to leave the party as we’ve been looking for opportunities to excuse him from the party. We were surprised he waited this long to announce his movement to the other party. We have been making efforts to rebuild and strengthen our party, and we never see people like him as a part of that rebuilding process.
“Long before his defection, he was an inactive member of the party and cannot boast of any significant contribution to the growth of the party, either in Ilorin East or at the State level. He is largely unknown at his ward and has no political value or relevance, and feels he could come to the limelight by moving to the ruling party,” he said.
The Ilorin East PDP Chairman also described as laughable, claim by Sulyman Tunji Buhari that he left the PDP because of ‘irreconcilable differences’ within the party, noting that the APC he moved to, is in crisis, disorganised and divided.
“It is laughable for Tunji to claim that he left the PDP because of irreconcilable differences. Every Kwaran knows that APC has more issues it is grappling with today than the PDP. The Kwara APC is disorganised and divided, having been thrown into a leadership crisis since they assumed power.
“The truth is that Tunji left our party because of the disciplinary action about to be taken against him by the party leadership when he could not account for funds given to him to renew rent for the party’s State Secretariat. Following his failure to account for the said money, he hurriedly resigned his position from the State Executive Council. This was the beginning of his issue with the party until he was able to refund the money two weeks ago..
“For the purpose of clarity, Sulyman Tunji Buhari enjoyed the support and mentorship from His Excellency, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, over the years just like numerous young people across the State which he himself has attested to enjoying our Leader’s magnanimity in different forums and fora.
“We are however shocked and amazed that such individual can now refer to himself as an ” ally” of His Excellency, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, CON
“We take strong exception to that, and we ask Mr Buhari to correct that ” misinformation” and as well control his cohorts from misleading the public.
“As a party, we recognise and respect the right of every individual to belong to whichever party they wish to. While wishing Tunji Buhari the best in his new political sojourn, we advise him to desist from peddling false narratives.”
