Named Obianuju Catherine Udeh also known DJ switch is popularly known Nigerian DJ and musical artiste, who came to prominence around October last year during the Nationwide EndSars protest.
She has described the controversial Police unit, Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, as group of Armed robbers in uniform and special Crowd of murderers with licence to carry guns.
DJ switch said this while speaking at the Oslo freedom forum recently held at the Norwegian capital city of Oslo earlier this month.
“They’re nothing but special breed of Armed robbers in uniform, a special group of gang of rapists with a badge and a special Crowd of murderers with licence to carry guns”, she said.
The Enugu state born Recalls how the now defunct and controversial Nigerian police unit, has been harassing, torturing, extorting, maligning and killing youth for years with no recourse to the Law of the country.
She also bemoaned the insincerity of the government in the disbandment of SARS, arguing that the government had announced their disbandment many times only for them to resurface on the streets again.
While addressing the audience, who came from all over the globe for the 2-day program, She exhibited the live recording she purportedly made on the 20th of October 2020,at the controversial killings at the Lekki tollgate during the EndSars protest which erupted in the country last year October.
Wherein DJ switch can be heard screaming, saying, “we are being shot at, people were falling by our sides as we’re dodging bullets”, the footage showed gory scenes of how the protesters, most of which are youths, are said to be shot at by some men of the Nigerian Army, however there have been conflicting reports on the number of casualties.
Speaking further, she recounted her ordeal, saying, “The incident of 20th of October 2020, brought me here today, on that very horrible day, the Nigerian Army sanctioned by the Nigerian government stormed the Lekki tollgate, with no warning not dialogue, soldiers opened fire on unarmed peaceful protesters with live ammunition.
However there have also been some questions raised on the veracity of the footage, as many believe the video to be fake, more so the Nigerian Army had come out to deny their involvement in the said shooting.
It’s to be recalled that, the outcry was ignited On the 3rd of October 2020, by a video that surfaced online, showing some group of policemen shooting a man in cold blood and fleeing the scene in the victim’s Lexus SUV”, she noted.
The outcry culminated into a peaceful protest, that was later hijacked by some unscrupulous people who seized the opportunity to perpetrate their maleficent acts, whereby Police station were attacked along with streak of businesses being looted nationwide. Udeh however gave a Kudos to Nigerian youth for their resoluteness and to the artists and influencers for lending their voices “in saying enough is enough, it is time we speak up”, she said.
